Do I need a visa to visit India?

Yes. Most international visitors need a visa to enter India. Many UK passport holders are eligible for an e-Tourist Visa, which can be applied for online before travelling. Please check the latest requirements for your passport and apply through the official Government of India visa portal. Refer to: https://www.mea.gov.in/visa-services

 

What airport should I fly into?

We recommend flying into Goa International Airport (GOI), also known as Dabolim Airport. This is the closest airport to the wedding venue.

 

Goa also has Manohar International Airport (GOX) in North Goa. GOX is considerably farther from the venue, so please choose GOI when booking your flights where possible.

If you're travelling from the UK and cannot find a convenient flight to GOI, connecting through Mumbai or Delhi is an easy option.

What currency is used in India?

India uses the Indian Rupee (INR / ₹). Cards are widely accepted at hotels and restaurants, but we recommend carrying some cash for smaller shops, taxis and local vendors.

 

Will my phone work in India?

Most unlocked UK & US phones will work in India. You can use international roaming or purchase an Indian SIM/eSIM. We recommend checking your network's international roaming rates before travelling. Mobile data will be useful for WhatsApp, Google Maps and getting around.

 

What plug adapter do I need?

India uses Type C, D and M sockets and 230V electricity. UK plugs will not fit Indian sockets, so bring a universal travel adapter.

 

What is the weather like in Goa?

Goa is tropical, so expect warm weather, sunshine and humidity. We recommend lightweight, breathable clothing, comfortable shoes, sunglasses, sunscreen and insect repellent.

 

Is Goa safe?

Goa is a popular tourist destination and generally well set up for international visitors. As anywhere, keep valuables secure, avoid carrying large amounts of cash and use reputable transportation.

What should I wear in Goa?

Goa is relaxed, but India can be more conservative outside beach and resort areas. Light, comfortable clothing is perfect for daytime. When visiting temples or religious sites, shoulders and knees should generally be covered.

Can I drink the tap water?

We recommend drinking bottled or filtered water. Bottled water is readily available throughout Goa.

 

Do I need to tip?

Tipping is appreciated but not always expected. Check your restaurant bill first, as a service charge may already be included. Small tips for drivers, guides and hotel staff are customary for good service.

 

How will I get around?

For the wedding events, transportation will be arranged for guests according to the wedding itinerary. For exploring Goa independently, taxis and app-based transportation are available.

 

What should I pack? 

Along with your wedding outfits, we recommend:

Insect repellent

Universal travel adapter

Personal medication

A small amount of Indian Rupees

A light layer for air-conditioned spaces

Exploring Goa

Where should I explore if I have some free time?

 

If you're extending your stay, Panjim and North Goa are well worth exploring.

Panjim (Panaji) is Goa's charming capital. Wander through Fontainhas, the old Latin Quarter, with its colourful Portuguese-era houses, cafés and bakeries. Spend an afternoon exploring the city, stopping for lunch or a drink along the way.

For a more relaxed, quintessentially Goan experience, head into the villages of Assagao, Parra and Siolim. These areas are full of beautiful old Portuguese homes, tropical greenery, boutiques, cafés and restaurants.

Further north, Morjim and Ashwem are known for their long sandy beaches, beach restaurants and laid-back atmosphere. Anjuna and Vagator offer a livelier mix of restaurants, bars, boutiques and nightlife.

 

Where should I eat?

Goa has an incredible food scene, from traditional Goan and Portuguese food to contemporary Indian cuisine.

 

Panjim

Joseph's Bar — a tiny, much-loved local bar and a great place to experience old-school Goa.

Mum's Kitchen — traditional Goan food showcasing recipes from Goa's different communities.

Jamun — modern Indian cuisine in an elegant setting.

Tamil Table — South Indian food with a focus on Tamil cuisine.

Fisherman's Wharf — seafood and Goan favourites in a relaxed setting.

Down The Road — a casual spot for drinks and a lively evening.

 

North Goa

Gunpowder — a Goa favourite for excellent South Indian food, tucked away in Assagao.

Hosa — contemporary Indian food in a beautiful setting.

Miguels — Goan and Portuguese-inspired food in Assagao.

Darling's — a relaxed restaurant and bar.

Pickled Mango — a great option for contemporary Indian and Asian-inspired food.

We recommend making reservations where possible, particularly for dinner.

 

Where should I stay if I extend my trip?

If you'd like to experience more of Goa before or after the wedding, consider staying in a boutique hotel or restored Goan home. South Goa is quieter and more laid-back, with beautiful beaches and a slower pace.

 

Panjim (Panaji) sits roughly between North and South Goa and makes a great base if you'd like to explore both. The city has a charming Portuguese heritage, particularly around Fontainhas, along with excellent restaurants and bars.

 

North Goa is livelier, with more restaurants, shopping, beaches and nightlife. Assagao, Parra and Siolim are ideal for a quieter, design-led stay, while Morjim and Ashwem are great if you'd prefer to be closer to the beach.

Our tip: If you have the time, we recommend adding 2–3 nights in North Goa before or after the wedding.
